In the first trans mental health study
conducted in Australia, Hyde and
colleagues reported that trans people
were four times more likely to
experience depression, and 1.5 times
more likely to experience anxiety
disorders, compared to the cisgender
population. Trans people are also
significantly more likely than cisgender
people to experience physical violence
(Dean, et al., 2000), with physical
assault a significant predictor of
suicide attempts (Clements-Nolle,
Marx, & Katz, 2006).
